Testing & Validation
All O-rings are verified per ASTM standards:
| Property | Standard | Typical Range / Target |
|---|---|---|
| Hardness | ASTM D2240 | 30 – 95 Shore A |
| Tensile Strength | ASTM D412 | 1,500 – 4,000 psi |
| Elongation | ASTM D412 | 150 – 700 % |
| Tear Strength | ASTM D624 | 400 – 850 ppi (≈ 80 – 150 kN/m) |
| Compression Set | ASTM D395 | < 25 % typical |
| Heat Aging | ASTM D573 | ≤ 10 % property loss |
| Fluid Immersion | ASTM D471 | < 10 % volume change |
| Temperature Range | — | –75 °F to +500 °F (material-dependent) |
Design Engineering Guidelines
- Compression Ratio: Typically 10 – 30 % depending on hardness and application pressure.
- Stretch / Squeeze: Controlled to avoid over-strain (2 – 5 % typical for static, < 2 % for dynamic).
- Gland Fill: Maintain 70 – 85 % fill for optimum sealing and thermal expansion allowance.
- Pressure Rating: Up to 20,000 psi with proper backup ring support.
- Backup Rings: Recommended for high-pressure or extrusion-prone conditions.
Application Examples
- Oil & Gas: Packers, valve seals, and chemical injection fittings
- Aerospace: Hydraulic, fuel, and pneumatic O-rings certified to MIL-spec performance
- Industrial: Pumps, compressors, couplings, and general sealing systems
- Automotive: Fuel rail, transmission, and brake systems
- Energy & Power: Cable penetration seals, steam system O-rings, turbine enclosures
